But the assumption for the original post can not be right.  6.1% is the admission rate for general pool.  For a particular student, he/she either has higher or lower chance.  If rejected by one of them then the chance for the other will be much smaller.  Likewise, if he/she is admitted by one of them, his/he chance is much higher than 6.1%.
