National Wages

  • The mean annual wages for pediatricians in the United States was $161,410 as of May 2009, according to the BLS. Salaries for pediatricians ranged from less than $130,024 per year to more than $209,396 per year as of April 2011, according to Salary.com. The BLS placed the median annual income for pediatricians nationwide at $152,240 as of May 2009, while Salary.com place the median at $165,871 as of April 2011.

California Wages

  • According to the BLS, the mean annual income for pediatricians in California was $165,270 (as determined by multiplying the hourly mean wage of $79.46 by 2,080 hours). The bottom 10 percent of California-based pediatricians earned less than $92,220. The top 50 percentile of pediatricians who worked in California earned more than $155,960. The BLS notes that wages for physicians tend to be higher in major metropolitan areas, but those who are willing to work in rural regions where health care is less prevalent may have greater employment opportunities.
