I think the OP is talking about two schools that one is not much infer than the other.  College admission officers most likely will not treat the two schools very differently.  It also depends on the kid.  If the kid is the brightest no matter in which school then he/she can go either one.  Otherwise, go to the slightly less competetive one and the kid will have more chance.  Asians and Chinese in particular are very competetive and aggressive.  Chinese parents tend to follow others and are not very creative sometimes.  Part of the reason is probably because we are still not very familiar with the culture since we did not grow up here and did not attend middile/high school here.  Many of my friends who bought the houses in the best school district in town and the student body is comprised of whites but very large percentage of Asians and regret the choice.  Carefully evaluate the quality of the schools, population (ethnicity) composition, quality of community and make the decision based on lid's ability.  Make sure the kid is confortable with the pressure.
