Parents and kids should share the sacrifice.  I have two daughters who will overlap three years in college.  My older one is going this fall.  We have decided that for the years where only one kid is in the college (1st and 5th), we will pick up the tab.  The overlapping three years, parents and kids will share the costs.  We already agree that we will NOT pay med/law or any other grad school expenses.  We told them that we can not live on just rice/soy sauce diet -:).
