Try to tell your son that people always have different preference. Some people perfer high-end clothing, some people don't care. Some people enjoy spending, some people enjoy watching their bank account growing.

There is always a good side for each of the preference, a bad side too.

Tell your son to accept and respect the difference and make his own decision.
