Thanks so much for the info, esp the car. That may change the whole set up for us again.

Our tickets are AA award tickets - we already booked the route but after finding rental car that expensive (the prices dropped a lot I just checked) we changed plan. The reservation is on hold, till 7/29 deadline for ticketing.

Yellowstone is at the end of a trip (first part is Alaska, Vancouver Island). So we are flying from YVR, which requires an overnight at DFW and fly up to JAC next day (involved one overnight stay at DFW, not to mention a total of 8+ hours flying on 2 legs).

Anyway, I need to go back to AA.Com to check availability between YVR and DFW - very tough to get as it is after the high season, there are only 2 flights to DFW after Aug 22 and award availability is sporadic.
