I just went back from the yellowstone park. I think 3 days is enough if you do not like the >5miles hiking.
Some suggestions:
1. go to the visitor information center to ask for maps and suggestions.
2. do not drive in the night.
3. reserve rooms in advance. The night in Aug or Sep might be cold. When I was there, it's 40F.
