他是发明了ultramarathon 这个词。

As a youth, Ted Corbitt (1919-2007) lived in the impoverished black section of Cincinnati, and he went to a high school without many facilities and no track or ball field. His father worked as a pick and shovel laborer. Somehow, his family sent him to college. Ted’s love for running persisted through poverty and racial discrimination.

Ted developed into one of the three top American marathon runners and was selected to compete in the 1952 Olympics in Finland. Within seven years, he became the president of the Road Runners Club of America, started to put on ultramarathons in New York City in the late 1950s, invented the term “ultramarathon,” and awarded the first ultra belt buckle. His efforts for the next four decades made him recognized as "The Father of American Ultrarunning."
