泰戈尔《迷途鸟》即将出版再复译

按：印度大文豪泰戈尔的Stray Birds （传统译为飞鸟集），我做了复译，书名改为《迷途之鸟》，不日即将出版，因此已无法修改。近日突发灵感，又做了补译，增加了韵体版本，即文中的【韵译】。我原来的译稿，本来还有译注（像写教材那样的详细注解）和感言（我自己的翻译感想，汉英对照，风格和泰戈尔的诗相仿），但出版社考虑这些部分都保留，会增加书页，价格会高，怕影响发行量，故而忍痛割爱，删除了感言部分，很可惜。这次新版复译，我保留了感言，却删除了译注，增加了韵体文。昨天有朋友想看，我便把刚刚完成的70首发给了他。刚才又想，何不发在文学城？我知道，征文活动已经是最后一天，无论发什么稿件，获奖机会几乎等于零。我已经发了好几篇，这篇也许是最后一篇了。我对获奖不抱任何希望，我的态度一直是重在参与，因此决定把这部分新译稿发在这里，是名符其实的刚刚出炉，还冒热气呢。哈哈。我现在发表在这里，对我这部新书稿会有特殊意义，即，将来出版时，我会在序言里写上最初发表在《文学城》上，留下永恒的纪念。我的译稿从书名到具体内容，有不少都是和传统译法不同的，故而曾被专家说是“和名人叫板”，这个名人就是郑振铎。我在序言里已经做了申辩和反驳。也因此烦请读者谅解。最后当然是衷心地希望获得城里朋友的慷慨赐教，拜谢啦！

Stray birds of summer come to my window to sing and fly away.
And yellow leaves of autumn, which have no songs, flutter and fall there with a sign.

迷途的鸟儿，来到我的窗前，唱唱歌，飞走了。
秋日金黄的叶儿，无歌可唱，飘飘洒洒，叹息一声，坠落在那儿。

夏日迷途鸟，
莅临我窗前；
婉转歌一首，
飞离舞蹁跹。
秋日金黄叶，
欲唱却无歌；
无奈空叹息，
寂寥飘然落。

鸟儿啊，懵懵懂懂因何故？春尽花稀时已违；花枝不是久栖处，应向长空展翅飞。
叶儿啊，你默默无闻，慷慨奉献。你的功绩，超越春夏秋冬。你无须叹息，纵使悄然无声碾作尘，依旧功高盖世应无悔。
O birds, why are you so muddled? You’ve missed the season for spring has ended, nearly flowerless. Yet sprays are not where you should stay. You should spread your wings and fly into the sky.
O leaves, you are unknown to fame; you generously contribute what you have. Your meritorious deeds surmount spring, summer, autumn and winter! It is unnecessary for you to give a sigh. Even you are quietly crushed into dust, your great contributions are still unique throughout the world, for which you should not regret.

O Troupe of little vagrants of the world, leave your footprints in my words.

世上渺小的漂泊者呀，成群结队，把你们的足迹留在我的文字里吧。

渺小漂泊者，
成群且结队；
深深你足迹，
镌刻我文里。

人物虽小，决非一般；万众一心，力大无边。
potatoes are absolutely unusual. They, so long as millions unite as one, would become most powerful.

The world puts off its mask of vastness to its lover.
It becomes small as one song, as one kiss of the eternal.
【散译】
世界面对自己的心上人，把它那浩瀚无垠的面具扯下。
它变小了，小如一支歌，小如一次永恒的吻。
【韵译·五绝】
缱倦世情深，
面对心上人；
毅然扯面具，
浩瀚且无垠。
伊人渐变小，
俨然似歌声；
小如一次吻，
悠然到永恒。
【译感】
扯下面具只能露出真容，真容有时未必代表真心。面善心狠者有之，面丑心善者亦有之。
Tearing off mask could only uncover true face. But sometimes true face unnecessarily reflects true heart. There exist either those who look kind but vicious in the heart or those who are kind in the heart but look ugly.

It is the tears of the earth that keep her smiles in bloom.
【散译】
是大地的泪滴，使她笑靥藏花，永不憔悴。
【韵译·俳句】
大地泪滴滴，
使她笑靥藏花里，
永世不憔悴。

鲜花蘸露尤美丽，笑脸沾泪更动人。
Fresh flowers with dew are more beautiful; smiling faces with tears are more touching.

The mighty desert is burning for the love of a blade of grass which shakes her head and laughs and flies away.
【散译】
广袤的沙漠，为一草之爱，燃起熊熊烈焰，而她却摇摇头，笑一笑，飞走了。

黄沙惜草情深切，
化作熊熊烈焰烧；
伊人不解摇头去，
百媚翻飞因一笑。

爱来临时，不要轻易说不，如果慎重对待，说不定你会爱上他。
Do not say no lightly whenever love comes. Treat it cautiously, maybe you could love him.

If you shed tears when you miss the sun, you also miss the stars.
【散译】
你思念太阳的时候流泪，那你也会思念群星。
【韵译·俳句】
常常思太阳，
泪水涟涟沾衣裳，
念星情亦长。
【译感】
含泪的思念是真诚的。真诚的思念是苦涩的，也是甜蜜的。
Missing with tears is to be sincere. Sincerely missing is bitter but also sweet.

The sands in your way beg for your song and your movement, dancing water. Will you carry the burden of their lameness?
【散译】
舞动的流水呀，你途中的泥沙，在恳求你的歌声和律动。你肯承担跛足的重负吗？
【韵译·七绝】
舞动流水可曾知？
途中泥沙心忒痴；
求你歌声及韵律，
跛足重负肯担持？
【译感】
为他人唱首歌是容易的，为他人提供帮助是困难的，与弱者携手并进更是难上加难。
It is easy to sing a song for others but difficult to provide help to others. Advancing hand in hand with the weak is much more difficult.

Her wishful face haunts my dreams like the rain at night.
【散译】
她那不无期盼的面庞，犹如夜雨，时常令我魂牵梦萦。
【韵译·七绝】
伊人笑靥独钟情，
殷殷期盼常转空；
夜雨绵绵忧思重，
魂牵梦萦睡不成。
【译感】
夜雨如歌，令人心动。
Night rain is like a song. It makes people excited.
9．
Once we dreamt that we were strangers.
We wake up to find that we were dear to each other.
【散译】
你我曾在梦乡中形同陌路。
现在清醒时却发现你我相亲相爱。

缠绵你我情，
曾经常入幽幽梦，
今似陌路中。
如今已醒悟，
发现你我情如故，
情深且意笃。

梦想与现实有时是水火不容的怨偶，有时是心心相印的情侣。
Dream and reality are sometimes an unhappy couple but at other times a loving couple sharing the same feelings.

Sorrow is hushed into peace in my heart like the evening among the silent trees.
【散译】
忧伤在我的心中归于宁静，宛如暮色融入寂静的林间。
【韵译·七绝】
忧伤虽在我心中，
却已悄然归宁静；
若雾飘飘入林晚，
暮色苍茫静无声。
【译感】
忧伤不在心中宁静，就在心中发狂。但愿忧伤不要沉渣泛起，如此便可以享受明媚的晨光了。
If sorrow is not hushed into peace in the heart, it will go mad in the heart. If only the dregs of sorrow won’t come to the surface. Thus, we could enjoy the morning light in all its brightness and charm.
11．
Some unseen fingers, like an idle breeze, are playing upon my heart the music of the ripples.
【散译】
无形的手指，宛若一缕闲适的微风，拨动我的心弦，奏响涟漪般的乐章。
【韵译·七绝】
无形手指闲借风，
悠然一缕酿钟情；
拨动心弦泛涟漪，
妙曲缭绕入晴空。
【译感】
心声不定，有爱则为美乐，无爱则为噪音。
The voice of heart is uncertain. With love, it would become beautiful music; without love, it would become noise.
12．
What language is thine, O sea?
The language of eternal question.
What language is thy answer, O sky?
The language of eternal silence.

大海呀，你在述说什么？
在述说那永恒的话题。
天空啊，你在回答什么？
在回答那永恒的沉寂。

大海述说说尽永恒话题；
天空回答答尽永恒沉寂。

大海沉默之日，便是世界末日来临之时。
The day for the sea to becomes quiet is the time for the world to meet its doom.

Listen, my heart, to the whispers of the world with which it makes love to you.

听呀，我的心儿，谛听那世界的低语，它正是以此对你示爱。

我心细细听，
世界窃窃私语中，
对你示爱情。

倾诉爱的声音越轻，往往更加真诚凝重。
As for the voice of love revealing, the lighter it is, the more honest and sincere it usually is.
14．
The mystery of creation is like the darkness of night--it is great.
Delusions of knowledge are like the fog of the morning.
【散译】
创造的神秘犹如夜之幽暗 – 气势雄浑。
知识的玄妙宛若晨之雾霭。
【韵译·楹联】
探索神秘 玄妙犹如夜之幽暗气势雄浑；
创造知识 精深宛若晨之雾霭情怀磅礴。

黑暗孕育光明，黑暗也吞噬光明。白天是黑夜的希望，黑夜是白天的归宿。白天在黑夜中产生，白天也在黑夜中消亡。
The darkness is pregnant with the light and the darkness also swallows the light. The day is the hope of the night and the night is the termination of the day. The day is born in the night and the day also dies out in the night.

Do not seat your love upon a precipice because it is high.
【散译】
切莫因峭壁高耸入云，让爱安坐其上。
【韵译·俳句】
峭壁入云端，
切莫因此心烦乱，
令爱坐其间。
【译感】
爱情的价值不在于高位，而在于坚贞。
The value of love lies in faithfulness and unyieldingness instead of high position.
16．
I sit at my window this morning where the world like a passer-by stops for a moment, nods to me and goes.
【散译】
今晨我坐在窗前，世界犹如一位路人，在这儿停留片刻，向我点点头，走了。

今晨静静窗前坐，
世如路人情何堪？
仅仅在此停片刻，
点头向我走天边。
【译感】
我们在世界之窗前也都是匆匆过客。
We are also passers-by in hast before the window of the world.
17．
There little thoughts are the rustle of leaves; they have their whisper of joy in my mind.
【散译】
幽思缕缕，是叶在那儿沙沙作响；它们潜入我心，窃窃私语，乐不可支。

缕缕幽思若云烟，
沙沙作响传叶言；
潜入我心轻如许，
窃窃私语乐无边。

幽思缕缕，宛如花气，令人陶醉； 缕缕幽思，宛如朝露，令人振奋。
Little thoughts are like flower breath making us intoxicated. Little thoughts are like morning dews making us encouraged.

What you are you do not see, what you see is your shadow.
【散译】
你是什么样子，自己无法看到，你看到的，只是自己的影子。

你是啥模样，
自己咋能看？
如若能见到，
或恐是影幻。

镜中之影，清晰可人，但却是虚的；镜中之影，亮丽迷人，但却是反的。
The image in mirror is clear and pleasant but it is visionary; the image in mirror is beautiful and amazing but it is reversed.
19．
My wishes are fools, they shout across thy song, my Master.
Let me but listen.
【散译】
神啊，我的愿望多么愚蠢，它们大呼小叫，穿越你的歌声。
让我只管洗耳恭听吧。
【韵译·五绝】
吾愿多迂腐，
小叫又大呼；
穿越你歌声，
洗耳听清楚。
【译感】
洗耳恭听才能听得清；洗耳静听才能听得真。
Only listening with great attention can make you hear something clearly; only listening with great attention can make you hear something true.
20．
I cannot choose the best.
The best chooses me.
【散译】
我无法选择最佳。
是最佳来选择我。
【韵译·七绝】
选择如若求最佳，
无法令我心怕怕；
若令最佳选择我，
两全其美传佳话。
【译感】
我无法摒弃最差，是最差来摒弃我。
I cannot discard the worst. The worst discards me.
21．
They throw their shadows before them who carry their lantern on their back.
背灯人把自己的影子投到自己的面前。
【韵译·五绝】
背灯失心智，
投影不自知；
身前黑憧憧，
自身影一只。
【译感】
只要心中有盏灯，梦乡里就是一片光明。
So long as there is a lamp in the heart, it would be bight in the dream.
22．
That I exist is a perpetual surprise which is life.
【散译】
我的存在，是一个永恒的奇迹，这一奇迹就是生命。
【韵译·俳句】
只因我存在，
奇迹如花开不败，
命泉滚滚来。
【译感】
肉身无论强弱，一定不能常在，灵魂不分美丑，并非都能永存。只有美到完满，丑到极致，方能在世人心中永存。
Body, whether it is strong or weak, won’t be everlasting; soul, whether it is beautiful or ugly, won’t be able to exist for ever. Only the beauty coming to the pinnacle and the ugliness reaching the climax can exist in the hearts of the people forever.
23．
We, the rustling leaves, have a voice that answers the storms, but who are you so silent?"
I am a mere flower.
【散译】
我们，这些飒飒如吟的叶儿，都有一种应答风雨的声音。可如此沉默的你，究竟是谁呢?
我不过是花儿一朵。

我如绿叶飒飒吟，
风歌雨唱作和音；
若问沉默谁是我，
小花一朵香在心。

叶，只要有一丝风，就会洋洋得意，但只能发出空洞的响声，花，总是悄然无声，却能散发迷人的芳香。
Leaves, they are always cock-a-hoop so long as there is a breath of air, but they can only give out empty sound; flowers, they are always quiet, but they send forth charming fragrance all the time.
24．
Rest belongs to the work as the eyelids to the eyes.
【散译】
休憩之于工作，恰如眼睑之于眼睛。
【韵译·五绝】
休憩与工作，
关联妙难说；
眼睑与双眼，
关系差不多。
【译感】
眼睑之于眼睛，犹如双唇之于牙齿。睑破眼伤，唇亡齿寒，一理也。
The eyelids belong to the eyes as the lips to the teeth. When the eyelids are broken, the eyes will be wounded, like when the lips are gone, the teeth will be exposed to the cold. These two cases are as like as two peas.
25．
Man is a born child, his power is the power of growth.
【散译】
人，天生就是一介顽童，他的力量就是成长的力量。
【韵译·五绝】
人生如顽童，
力量大无穷；
成长需力量，
二者成一统。
【译感】
童言无忌，童心不泯，是其力量之所在。
Children and fools speak the truth. One should always retain childlike innocence. These two points are where the children’s power lies.
26．
God expects answers for the flowers he sends us, not for the sun the earth.
【散译】
神赐予我们花，但他并不期盼我们为此而酬答，他期待我们为太阳和大地而酬答。
【韵译·七绝】
神已慷慨恩赐花，
不期吾辈作酬答；
若要酬答也无妨，
太阳大地功劳大。
【译感】
只要我们怀有一颗感恩的心，就会发现世界上有无数美好的东西可供我们享受。
So long as we have a sense of being grateful for kindness, we would find countless good things in the world for us to enjoy.
27．
The light that plays, like a naked child, among the green leaves happily knows not that man can lie.
【散译】
光，犹如一介裸童，在绿叶间嬉笑玩耍；殊不知，人，居然可以撒谎。

光如一裸童，
嬉笑绿叶中；
不知人性恶，
撒谎情独钟。
【译感】
童心不可欺。
Cheating childlike innocence cannot be tolerated.
28．
O Beauty, find thyself in love, not in the flattery of thy mirror.
【散译】
啊，美呀，到爱中去判断你自己吧，不要到你镜子的阿谀中去判断。

判断美丑需公正，
爱中方能说了算；
勿入自家镜子中，
阿谀奉承方寸乱。
【译感】
美，在大爱中净化；美，在阿谀中失真。
Beauty, it gets to be purified in love; beauty, it gets to be untrue in flattery.

My heart beats her waves at the shore of the world and writes upon it her signature in tears with the words, "I love thee."

我的心啊，在大千世界的海岸上波涛汹涌，放情激荡；我的心啊，在那上边挥泪题记：“我爱你。”

大千世界海岸上
波涛汹涌心激荡；
我心在此挥泪记，

和着泪的爱是最甜美的。
The love mixed with tears is the sweetest and most beautiful one.

Moon, for what do you wait?
To salute the sun for whom I must make way.

月儿呀，你在等待什么？
等待向我必须为之让路的太阳致敬。

借问明月待何物？
等我致敬谢太阳；
我若看见太阳到，
忙把道路来相让。

我站在窗前，仰望明月。我们心照不宣：月亮知道我想飞上天空，我知道月亮想来到地上。
I stand in front of the window and look up at the bright moon. We have a tacit understanding: the moon knows I want to fly up into the sky and I know the moon wants to come down onto the ground.

The trees come up to my window like the yearning voice of the dumb earth.

绿树拔地而起，与我的窗儿比肩而立，仿佛是无言的大地，在发出渴望的声音。

似是无言地，

Wordless longing is more ardent.

His own mornings are new surprises to God.

神自己的清晨，对他自己也是新奇的。

神不例外无需论，
对己也清新。

新奇之心乃进取之心，二心兼备，活力无穷。
The sense of curiosity is the enterprising spirit. Having both, one would get unlimited energy.

Life finds its wealth by the claims of the world, and its worth by the claims of love.

生命因物质需求而变得优裕富有，因爱情需求而变得价值连城。
【韵译·楹联】
生命因物质需求而变得优裕富有；
生命因爱情需求而变得价值连城。
【译感】
物质诚可贵，爱情价更高。若为爱情故，物质实可抛。
Materials are really precious but love is more valuable. If only for the sake of love, all materials could be abandoned.

The dry river-bed finds no thanks for its past.
【散译】
枯竭的河床，对自己往事的感激之情难以言表。
【韵译·俳句】
河床虽干涸，
感激往事激情多，
句句难言说。
【译感】
回忆往事，不如放眼未来。
Recalling the past is no better than keeping the future in view.
35．
The bird wishes it were a cloud.
The cloud wishes it were a bird.
【散译】
鸟儿愿为一朵云。
云儿愿为一只鸟。
【韵译·楹联】
鸟儿愿为一朵云；
云儿甘做一只鸟。
【译感】
鸟就是鸟，云就是云。空想换位，只是浪漫的幻想。浪漫的幻想，不如朴素的现实。朴素的现实最珍贵，做好自己最重要。
Bird is bird. Cloud is cloud. Vainly hoping to change position is only romantically fancying. Romantic fancy is no better than simple reality. Simple reality is most precious. It is of greatest importance to be a nice self.
36．
The waterfall sings, "I find my song, when I find my freedom."
【散译】
瀑布唱道：“我发现自由的时候，也发现了歌。”
【韵译·俳句】
瀑布唱着说：
发现自由发现歌，
我的功劳多。
【译感】
自由是打开一切樊笼的钥匙。
Freedom is the key to open all cages.
37．
I cannot tell why this heart languishes in silence.
It is for small needs it never asks, or knows or remembers.
【散译】
我说不出这颗心何以在默默地衰竭。
这是因为那些从未提出，从未知晓，从未记起的小小的需要。

心事重重道不出，
衰竭何以难停步？
皆因需求未记起，
淤积心头无人诉。
【译感】
险莫大于心衰，哀莫大于心死。心衰竭了，死亡也就不远了。
Nothing is more dangerous than heart failure. Nothing is more sorrowful than heart death. If heart failure has come into being, death is not far off.

Woman, when you move about in your household service your limbs sing like a hill stream among its pebbles.
【散译】
妇人，你在为料理家务而忙来忙去时，你的手足在歌唱，宛如一条山溪在小石间流淌。

妇人料理家务忙，
手舞足蹈在歌唱；
宛如山溪止不住，
穿梭石间永流淌。

事无巨细，有事可做便是福。
Big or small, so long as you have something to so, it is your blessedness.
39．
The sun goes to cross the Western sea, leaving its last salutation to the East.

太阳去跨越西方的海面时，留下自己对东方的最后敬意。

太阳去跨越，
西海浪汹涌；
留下对东方，
最后敬意诚。

历史给未来插上双翅。
History provides future with two wings.
40．
Do not blame your food because you have no appetite.
【散译】
没有胃口，莫怪食物。

如果没胃口，
且莫怪食物；
做事不利索，
且莫怪双手。
【译感】
手不利落不该怪衣袖，过不去河不该怪河宽。
Hands being clumsy, you should not complain of the sleeves. Unable to cross the river, you should not grumble at the river’s being too wide.
41.
The trees, like the longings of the earth, stand a tiptoe to peep at the heaven.
【散译】
绿树，宛如大地的渴望，踮起脚尖窥视天空。
【韵译·俳句】
绿树甚葱茏，
宛如大地渴望中，
踮脚窥长空。
【译感】
有渴望才有希望。渴望越强烈， 希望才越有可能实现。
There is a longing, there is a hope. The stronger the longing is, the greater the possibility is to get the hope realized.
42.
You smiled and talked to me of nothing and I felt that for this I had been waiting long.
【散译】
你莞尔一笑，对我一言不发，而我却感觉自己已经为此等待多时。
【韵译·五绝】
君只莞尔笑，
一言也不发；
自我感觉到，
久待失年华。
【译感】
心照不宣就在莞尔一笑中，心心相印就在默默无言中。
The signs of sharing same feelings exist in a sweet smile; the signs of having a tacit understanding exit in wordless silence.
43．
The fish in the water is silent, the animal on the earth is noisy, the bird in the air is singing.
But Man has in him the silence of the sea, the noise of the earth and the music of the air.

水里的鱼儿在沉默，陆上的兽儿在喧闹，空中的鸟儿在歌唱。
可人儿呢，既能在心中像大海那样沉默，又能在心中像陆地那样喧闹，还能在心中像天空那样奏乐。

陆上兽儿在喧闹；

人为万物之灵，只要用心，没有学不会的东西。
Man is the soul of
the universe. Nothing in the world is too difficult to learn so long as we set our mind on it.

The world rushes on over the strings of the lingering heart making the music of sadness.

世界在缠绵之心的琴弦上奔驰向前，奏出忧伤的乐声。

缠绵心上弦，
借力世界奔向前，
忧伤曲不断。

世界啊，你慢些走！请演奏一些欢快的乐章吧。
The world, o, please be slower to make the music of happiness.

He has made his weapons his gods.
When his weapons win he is defeated himself.

他把自己的武器造就成自己的神。
他的武器胜利时他却将自己击败。

明明是武器，
他却造成神。
自打胜利起，
败己亦败人。

人们往往败于己，而毁于己。
Man is usually defeated and ruined by himself.

God finds himself by creating.

上帝凭借创造发现自己。

上帝善创造，
凭借创造才知道，

Life with creating is a vase sea yet, without, a pond of dead water.

Shadow, with her veil drawn, follows Light in secret meekness, with her silent steps of love.

The stars are not afraid to appear like fireflies.

酷似萤火虫，星星才不怕呢。

天上无数星，
入夜闪闪明；
无法比日月，
酷似萤火虫。

萤火虫再亮也是短命的，星星再暗也是永恒的。
