Who is smearing Rupert Murdoch’s wife Wendi with claims of affair?
US gossip sites are awash with stories that Australian media tycoon Rupert Murdoch is being cuckolded by his 39-year old wife Wendi Deng Murdoch. The "other man" is named as Chris DeWolfe, one of the founders of the social networking site MySpace which Murdoch's News Corp purchased for $580 million in 2005.
The US site Gawker reports that the rumours of Wendi's alleged dalliance with 42-year-old DeWolfe (pictured far right, with Wendi far left, Rupert Murdoch and MySpace co-founder Tom Anderson) have been around for a while, ever since a reporter at a "major business magazine" called Murdoch's office 18 months ago with the story. Now more information and innuendo is suddenly flooding the blogosphere and it all looks suspiciously like a smear campaign.
One claim, made by the website Jossip, is that Wendi, who is the "chief of strategy" at MySpace, has been meeting DeWolfe at her and her hu*****and's Manhattan apartment. Another story doing the rounds is that someone with a grudge against Murdoch hired a private investigator and discovered his wife was having an affair. Needless to say, neither Murdoch, his wife nor DeWolfe have dignified the rumours with a response.
This has blown up just as the Murdochs prepare for a lavish 40th birthday party for Wendi in New York next Monday. According to the Portfolio site, Rupe has booked the top floor of the Grammercy Park Hotel and splashed out on a recital by the Chinese pianist Lang Lang. Guests will include fellow Aussie Nicole Kidman and her hu*****and Keith Urban, Billy Joel and Arianna Huffington. Whether Chris DeWolfe is on the list is not known. ·
