晨曦下的林肯纪念馆:

今年三月一号到六号,霹雳猫去华盛顿DC参加公司的培训。然后踏上了以西伯利亚快车横穿欧亚大陆为主题的环球旅行,四月中旬才回来,按时间顺序,先补交华府的作业吧。
在过去的四年里,每年三月前后,霹雳猫都会去华盛顿DC参加公司培训,可总是行色匆匆。今年,霹雳猫决定在公差结束后和朋友在华府过周末: 参加教会组织的为华府祷告的活动,参观白宫,还有去国会图书馆。
(一)为华府祷告:萬國逐家佈道團和在華盛頓特區行進禱告的機構和教會 團體一起主办了为华府祷告的活动。有兴趣的朋友可以参考下面的网站:http://www.acpr.org/dc-circle-makers
下面是霹雳猫在祷告路线上的随拍。
(1)杰佛逊纪念馆:“we hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”-独立宣言
(2)罗斯福纪念馆:“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”-FDR's First Inaugural Address。
(3)马丁路德金纪念碑:"Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.”
(4)林肯纪念馆: "Let us have faith that right makes might, and in that faith, let us, to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand it.”
每次到DC,霹雳猫清晨都会从酒店跑到林肯纪念馆,风雨无阻。这两张是清晨跑步时拍的照片:

(二)参观白宫: 霹雳猫和朋友三个月前在网上向本州的国会议员提交了参观白宫的申请。行程前一周得到了回复。
Dear Mrs. 霹雳猫:
This letter confirms a reserved self-guided tour of the White House for x from the "last name" group ID# C-xHVLxQxx on 3/5/2016 at 09:00 AM.
Please arrive for the tour at least 15 minutes before the scheduled tour time. You should enter the White House grounds at the Visitor's Entrance, located at the corner of 15th Street and Alexander Hamilton Place. Uniformed National Park Service Rangers are posted to assist groups as they arrive. All guests 18 years of age or older will be required to present photo identification which must match exactly the name previously submitted for clearance. While the tour is self-guided, United States Secret Service officers are posted in every room to provide historical information to visitors. Please feel free to ask them questions.
Please take a moment to inform your party that certain items are not permitted inside the White House. Prohibited items include, but are not limited to: handbags, purses, backpacks of any kind, strollers, cameras (or any other recording devices), weapons, and personal grooming items. Umbrellas, wallets, cell phones and car keys are permitted. Keep in mind that neither the White House nor the United States Secret Service will provide a place to check these items.
Tour hours are occasionally affected at the last minute by unforeseen White House events. Please call the Visitor Office 24-hour information line recording at 202-456-7041 for a list of prohibited items and to confirm that your tour has not been cancelled.

霹雳猫和朋友提前半小时到入口排队,经过三道安检后,偶们就和奥巴马总统在同一个屋檐下了。白宫没有想象中的高大上,房间比想象中的小,但很雅致,温馨。去参观之前,要做功课:这里没有导游讲解,如果想得到更多的信息,游客要主动提问。工作人员和便衣会耐心分享每间房子的典故和趣闻轶事。

China Room:历代总统的瓷器收藏。
Library: 最初是洗衣房,也曾经被用做等待室,1935年改为白宫图书馆。
State Dinning Room: 曾经是杰佛逊总统的内阁办公室;1802年,路易斯和克拉克探险就是在这里计划通过的。1902年,老罗斯福总统把这个房间改建为国宴厅。
East Room:白宫内最大的房间。很多的新闻发布会,国宴后的舞会等大型仪式都在这里举行。五个总统的女儿曾经在这里举办婚礼。
Green Room:房间很小但很多的艺术品;据工作人员介绍,这里是宴会前后的聊天室。肯尼迪夫人六十年代重新装修了这个房间。
Red Room:总统夫人会见访客的地方。老罗斯福总统曾经用这个房间作为他的吸烟室。
Blue Room:白宫内的三个椭圆办公室之一。1837年被命名为Blue Room。是白宫的贵宾接待室。自1961年以来,白宫内的圣诞树每年都摆放在这个房间。

(三)国会图书馆
国会图书馆是美国国立图书馆。图书馆的三个主要建筑都是以总统名字命名的:托马斯·杰斐逊大楼 ,图书馆的主楼,1897年开放,在1983年改名为托马斯·杰斐逊大楼。约翰·亚当斯大楼是1939年开放的 、和詹姆斯·麦迪逊大楼,1983年开放。国会图书馆是全球第二大图书馆, 收藏件数超过1.47亿,书籍收藏量有3200万种,涵盖了460种语言,是美国最大的稀有书籍珍藏地点。霹雳猫的旧金山同事要在周五返程前办一张国会图书馆的图书证,霹雳猫公事结束后陪同事赶到位于国会山东侧的国会图书馆。
穹顶:
镇馆之宝,《圣经》:在国会图书馆的大厅里摆放着两本有历史意义的圣经:精美的Giant Bible of Mainz, 最后一批手抄本圣经之一(1452-1453),和一本第一批的古藤堡圣经 (1454-1455)标志着圣经批量印刷的开始。
