step 1 - see your Company's HR policy - if there is no policy, then the statutory rights are as below:

Step 2 -

Maternity:
1/ is paid for 39 weeks
2/ Pay rate for first 6 weeks of SMP: 90% of your average weekly earnings; SMP remaining weeks: £124.88 or 90% of average weekly earnings, whichever is less
3/ qualifying conditions: related to earnings level, length of service, time limits for notification, and medical evidence of pregnancy - i don't know your situation therefore can not say anything

Paternity:
1/ SPP is paid for 2 weeks
2/ Pay rates: £124.88 pwe wwk or 90% of average weekly earnings, whichever is less - many companies offer full pay for 2 weeks paternity as employees' benefits
3/ qualifying conditions: related to earnings level, length of service, time limits for notification, and signed declaration of commitment

No need to say thanks, as I get info from peoplemanagement magazine June 2010 and have taken this opportunity to refresh myself.

Golden rules for pregnancy month 5-9:
Eat fruit
Not to take in stress from work or life
Be happy – for whatever reason
Not to lift any heavy item (more than 2kgs)
Don’t try to bend yourself and pick up things on the ground – get the hu*****and to do it for you
Rest as much as you can, and put your feet up in month 8&9
Remember – when baby is born, there will be a point that you want to put him or her back into tummy so that you can get a good night sleep without feeding…good luck
