My holiday in Milton Keynes was exciting and pleasurable but I have ended up exhausted after all the fun and activities we enjoyed. Milton Keynes itself is very fresh and modern, which is the way I like it and much of the buildings are quite new. As soon as we arrived, I noticed that the area we stayed in was more spaced out that Dartford and much, much, cleaner than the majority of places in central London, and was pleasantly surprised by how the public managed to keep their town so clean and airy. All the shopping centres and supermarkets were huge but short, with massive corridors, and there were also a noticeably large amount of roundabouts: at times we even thought that it looked a bit like Beijing!
The highlight of the holiday for me has to be tobogganing at XScape, the only place in the southern UK with a real snow skiing centre. I was horrified and embarrassed when I first walked into the room as I could see only children who were much younger than me, but to my relief, I later realised that there were around 4 children who looked older than me and a few who were around the my age. Tobogganing itself was exciting, exhilarating and extremely cold. Sliding down the slope at full speed was fun and gave me a brilliantly refreshing feeling but the snow left my trousers soaking and my hands frozen.
Another activity that I was very amused by was the ten pin bowling we enjoyed on the third day of our holiday. Mum was naturally brilliant at this while Dad and I needed a bit more practice. In the end, we all managed surprisingly well, and I was reasonably proud of myself for improving rapidly and even managing to achieve a pinfall.
Back at our spacious hotel, we enjoyed the brilliant facilities every evening: from the swimming pool to the gym, everything seemed so private and I felt as if we owned the place. It wasn’t anything like the crammed public swimming pools with dirty toilets and broken locks, the pool was peaceful and calm with no splashing or shouting, just right if you were like mum, who wanted to relax for a while. The gym felt even more private: no queuing for the equipment, no sweaty smell and best of all, there were no noisy machines running.
Overall, despite the traffic, the rain, the pains and all those unmemorable little issues, our holiday to Milton Keynes was enjoyable, exciting and a holiday that I am sure I will remember for ever and ever.
