personal service, substitute service, nail and mail
Following methods are usually okay for serving any legal notice in most states. Individual states might be different, check with your local law (service of process).
1. personal service: you or your representative have to hand the notice to the tenant by person
2. substitute service: you or your representative have to hand the notice to another person living at the unit, at a suitable age (teenager and older), also mail the notice to the tenant.
3. nail and mail: post the notice on the door, and mail a copy to the address.
