FHFA is the regulator of Fannie and Freddie

their predecessor is OFHEO.

their housing index is based on fannie and freddie repeated sales, ie

1. no appraisal, only real sales;
2. conforming loans only.

Case-Shiller index, now part of S&P, is also repeated sale, but includes more property types.
