I think you have the point, but some people might not agree with you on this. They want the proud feeling as an owner, and treat house as a base on the earth, especially Chinese people. Also, what about the tax? You get some deduction from the mortgage you pay to the bank for your own house, nothing from the rent you paid to the landlord.
