His story is very believable in Silicon Valley.   There are many millionaires in Silicon Valley.   Many of them are our next door neighbours types.

Think about the housing cost in silicon valley, then you won't be surprised to see so many millionaires.

Human being exists for certain purpose.  Unless people find something else more meaningful to do, IT is a good job.  At least, you do something useful for the society.   I see nothing wrong continue working if they enjoy it.
