200K in DFW can get you a 2K sf SFH on 1/4 acre. In CA you might be able to get a shed. You need a qualify of life measure. Not just how much tax you pay. 

It is similar to the current CPI or chained CPI debate. 

You buy BMW in CA but tiny house. You buy a large house, but drive a Honda in TX.
