you exchange from one holding to another, deferring tax. Passive income won't be lost this way. Buy and hold initially won't generate passive income. However, if you can STICK IT OUT for 7-10 years, rent increase and mortgage pay down can make passive income for you. Therefore, Buy and hold should be the goal you strive for.
