Primary SFH to rental house. If we fixed the leaky pipes before

If we fixed the leaky pipes in Oct. before the renter moved in in Dec, can we still claim it as a repairment instead of an improvement for tax purpose? We did plan to fix it because we wanted to rent it out. Thank you!
