How interested are you about investing in stock market and how much time are you willing to spend? 

1) If not interested...a good strategy for passive investor is to periodically buy index and reinvest dividends. Find a broker that offer free ETF trades, for example Fidelity offer free trades for IWV (Russell 3000). 

2) If willing to spend the time and want to invest actively, to start you can read:

buffett's annual letters to shareholders
