He maybe in Texas, but never get lay-off?

I wonder if the author is cheating since Houston-Dallas-Fort Worth area in Texas is the only area economy runs well in 2000 - 2010, probably, and need to depends on company business.

Even in Houston, many company have mass-layoff in 2008 down-turn!  Oil & Gas company employees are hard to find a job at that time.
