I would change the floor

after you take out the old laminate floor, completely wash the subfloor and wait for a few days until no more smell, if the you still smell it, paint your subfloor with oil based paint, at lease two layers, paint the wall and celling with oil based paint too. fill all gaps and holes with caulk.
