There are two nipples on the top

each is a piece male thread on both ends. I suppose one of these leaks. Some models (like mine) has copper pipe soldered together (no threads) you have to cut them. If the leak is not on the pipes and joints, then the heater is corroded and done. Get a new one. But usually when a water heater dies, water leaks from the botton of the whole thing.
