should young folks save $$ for house(self living) or for retirement?  paying rent while saving ROTH doesn't sound tax savvy to me.

yes, many ways.  for those who are interested in RE investing,  locking $ in retirement acct may not be a good idea.  so it really depends.  one has to do his or her own homework to see what to do to benefits each individual financially.
