If it is only a few hundred $, copy of the cancled check should be OK.

If you are only as an landlord position, you probably no need to issue an 1099 if you pay someone over 600 a year. Once you have a receipt, it is OK.

BUT, if you held the house as a business, like LLC, you shall issue an 1099 if you pay someone over 600 a year.
