If I have your equity, and I live in Bay area, I would make that decision. You don't have to move to my place, you move to a place where you can make the same salary for you and your wife, yet, the future property appreciation is also great. That's the most sensible decision to a guy like you. But I understand most people can't see through to that yet. But in 20 years, you will see through to that. I am serious.
