Apple approached by Intel for investment in chipmaker, share

Investing.com -- Shares of Intel Corp. gained on Wednesday on reports it approached {6408|Apple Inc.}} about a potential investment in the struggling chipmaker, according to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter.

Intel shares closed up 6.4% to $31.22 amid the news.

The companies have also discussed closer collaboration, said the sources, who requested anonymity because the talks are private. 

If completed, an Apple investment would follow recent capital injections from other tech giants. Nvidia Corp. invested $5 billion in Intel last week, with plans to collaborate on chips for personal computers and data centers. 

Intel has reportedly contacted other companies about possible investments and partnerships as well.
