old basement is not worth to keep. just like most of the houses that have been burned down. do not try to use the same basement to save some money. you will always have to mention your old basement when you try to market the new house. besides, newer basement i would suggest at least 9 ft to 12 ft tall. you will be glad if you do that. no you don't save much property tax unfortunately.
