The reason that you got the medical insurance through the company he owned previously.  I guess that during the sale of his company, he has negotiated with the buyer who was his partner before.  As a part of deal, the company he sold will continue providing the insurance until he is 65.  It is very common for small business owners to get some of the benefits from the comany they sold.
