Seems that you live in Denver, otherwise, I'd suggest you to see Aspen, Vail, etc.
Strongly suggest you choose a different time to take the trip. While in colorado spring, besides garden of gods, also trying to see Royal Gorge, take the Go train to Pikes Peak. But they won't open till later in May.
On you way to NM, try to visit great sand dune in Alamosa. Again they won't open till later.
In NM, I prefer to stay at Santa Fe if you have more time. It is beautiful, and peaceful if you want to have a nice vacation. (compare to Albuquerque) It is a different story if you want sightseeing. Try to include Taos on your list to visit.
