Of course it only works if you are at East Coast, going thru Middle East is not longer than flying to West Coast then to Asia.
From MIA, IAD, JFK or even ORD, I would take QR via DOH to Asia anyday then take SQ or CX from West coast or even NH / JL from ORD/ JFK. The QSuite, the service and the foods, plus dine anytime you prefer, beats any of the Asian airlines which we all know are the tops already.
