There are a few ways to get up there, incl the cable car not far away from Plaza Colon or climb up from the back of the Palau National, the National Museum of Catalana Art (The Fonte Magica is in front of it in the Plaza Espania). The fountain light show in Summer nights are spectacular. I wonder how many on this forum have seen it or even know its existence because Plaza Espania is definitely outside the usual tourist spots known here.
We took a bus to get up because the bus allowing multiple stops, Castle and then the spots along the road circulating Montjuic. incl a stop in front of the Miro's museum. Its surrounding now is called Parc de Montjuic. A very pleasant bus ride to us. On the way down we took the cable car.
It can be a very good port day activity if like us have been in Barcelona many times, from a week / a few days stay to just a port day, this is an easy outing to do vs just going to see all things Gaudi. Barcelona has A LOT MORE to offer than Gaudi's stuff. We actually dont particularly enjoy his archetecture especially the Familia during its early stage. Of course the Familia is NOT the same as its origin after so many other artists having touched it with their unique concepts/ideas/styles. It is now much pleasant than 15-20 years ago for sure.
