Starting January 8, 2025, U.S. citizens and most non-European travelers need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enter or transit through the UK. This includes travelers from the US, Canada, Australia, and other non-European countries. The ETA is a digital permission to travel to the UK, not a visa, and must be obtained before travel.
