Cannot be in Hot and Humid climate - it would develop blackspot on its leaves - not only very unsightly but also affect flowering.
Too hot would encourage Thrips that attack the light color types - the thrips would stun the flower and the buds would not open but wilt.
They grow readily in climate like WA & OR. CA only needs more water but CA is not nearly as humid as Southern states. Roses like cool and humid, such as England. The flower can be as big as a saucer, just growing casually at the corner of house, under the fence, etc.
I know a lot about planting roses simply because we did something silly - trying to create a rose garden in Houston - too hot and too humid for them.
