Zeebrugge is a popular port of call on all Transatlantic cruises taking the Northern crossing, Zeebrugge, Le Harve, Amsterdam...
The most popular excursion people do on this port is to go to Brugge. IIRC it is on the World Heritage List, quite similar to Strasburg's setting. Since weather was not good, overcast with frequent drizzles, we chose to head to a grocery store near the port, bought an all day pass allowing you to board any public transportation that run along the coast line from border to border. We were thinking in case it rained hard, we would be spared because we would be riding the tram. It turned out to be a very smart choice as those who headed to Brugge, were met with major down pour by noon... Their leisure walking along the canals was all ruined. lol.
Along the ride, at some sections on the shore (not on the beach, but across the road on the low hills along the road side) we saw plenty of the 堡垒. We were quite puzzled at that time as we thought WWII did not have battle fronts on this coast...
