I used to have a co-worker who is from Columbia with Spanish descent. She showed me the Saffron once. It is amazing how such tiny "threads" could produce such strong aroma. Hers was from Mexico, a cheaper variety.
It and the Truffles (mushrooms) from France, are something amazingly expensive cooking ingredients. :)
