as a beginner, just buy the cheapest skis.

2nd hand is good too.

when you become good, you'll have more knowledge about skiing and equipment. and you'll need harder skis and boots, which can be very expensive.

it also depens on your demands: slalom, mogul or curving?

my skis cost about $700. i've been using them for 3 years. but need to get better ones...
