trip to Paris and Italy

I am preparing a trip to Paris and Italy in April from New Jersey, never been there before, my schedule are as below:

1. first visit Paris and stay 3 days
2. then to Rome, taking trains to Florence, Milan, Venice then back to Rome

My questions are :

1. Which airline should I choose, of course the cheapest one?
2. should I take a train or airplane from Paris to Rome?
3. How many days should I spend in each of the Italy city, I only have 10-12 days in total for this trip, kind of tight schedule
4. What are the main sites should I visit for these cities?
5. Do I need to schedule all the hotels in advance? or it is easy to find a one when I arrive there.
