Very different. Canadian French is several hundred years ago's French French, in terms of words and grammer. I had a French Canadian friends, she visited Paris in the 1980's. Her (remote) grand father in France told her daughter (raised in Canada) that her French like his grand-grand-mother's.
I think it is something like today's Chinese speaks "wen-yan-wen", or like "Kon-yi-gi" in Lu-Xuin's novel.
