from the missing CNET编辑 Incident.
Apparently, the lost CNET family did not carry paper maps and followed directions from their GPS, which sent them onto the short cut from I-5 to Gold Beach on the Oregon Pacific Coast. The family, with a 4 year old and 7 month old, were heading for sightseeing on the Oregon Coast. GPS of course does not tell them the short cut is covered under heavy snow in winter and inaccissible.
A searching helicopter was able to locate the family with the cooperation of the cell phone company. Even though there is no cell signal in the area, they were able to pick up a little blip from the radar. Another lesson, have your cell phone with you and save your battery at all times as you never know when it can be useful.
The searchers were so close to finding the missing from CNET编辑 this afternoon. They followed his foot tracks and located a pair of his pants and some other clothing left behind by him. The search area is now narrowed down to a gorge at 3000 ft elevation in the Oregon coastal range. A ranger was injured not seriously during the search. The terrain was so treacherous that they had to call it off for the night. We may very well wake up to the news that James the CNET编辑 is found. Let's hope he will be safely returned to his two daughters...
