Not only the initial outlays, but also the annual maintenance/check-up costs you a bundle.

Just rent the camera if you feel like it, and the headlight. You do need the light to be able to make good pictures once you are 40ft or below.

All you need to have is a very good mask (SCUBA quality) and a good snorkel with purge valve, and a top quality "skin" for body protection and for warmth.
