because it is a boat diving at Maui - going to Mol9kini, the crescent shape volcano island 2 1/2 miles outside South of Maui. The boat ride can be very rough even in Summer, let alone in Winter.
Oahu you would be better off just do snorkeling at Hanauma Bay.
Snorkeling at Maui is best done at the South Shore - you can also see some young lava field upclose - Go all the way South from Wailea (the most upscale resort/residential area in Maui), pass Big Beach and Little Beach and keep going - you will hit some moderate residential areas and there are a couple uncrowded beaches have great snorkeling. Parking is next to the small church and there are showering facilities accross street from parking.
This site should give you enough info to plan your trip. http://www.alternative-hawaii.com/
The section for self-guide driving should be a good place to start to plan your driving.
Be sure to visit the East side of Oahu - that is where you will be far away from the crowd and feel you are in Polynesia.
Also do your Diamond hike in the morning.
