there is an excellent Maritime Museum inside Navy Academy

Lots of exhibits about WWII, especially the Pacific Theatre. You can even listen to the recordings from the battle at Midway. It also has numerous beautifully constructed model ships of many sizes.
Very few people know about that place. The day we visited we were the only 2 visitors in the whole museum.

You can see the cadets have their sailing training in the Bay. Though I seriously doubt it is called "the world capital of sailboats". Afterall, Newport in RI is where the sailors trained for the America Cup. Newport Beach in South California probably has the highest number of sailboats in the U.S. (followed by Seattle I believe>)
