There are many differences in wine making and labeling between France and USA. For example, it is commonly regarded that blended wines are of low quality in USA. So the grapes are clearly labeled, like Merlot, Pinot Noir, etc. It is quite different for French. They think it is an art to blend wines from different grapes to achieve perfect tastes, aroma, feels, etc. For example, many of those from Chateau Lafite are a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
If you are into Cabernet Sauvignon, choose the wines from Medoc and Graves region in the Left Bank. For Merlot and Cabernet Franc, choose those from Right Bank, like Saint-Emilion. For white wines, try those made of Semillon. It is hard to find them in USA.
