George Vancouver was an officer of the Royal Navy. At age of fifteen, he travelled to the Pacific on Captain Cook's 2nd expedition.

I suppose not everyone here knows, Vancouver of Canada, is named after George Vancouver. There are many traces of him in modern day Oregon, Washington and BC Canada, as well as southwest of Australia.
