there is Cherokee and Gatlingburg on each side of the main road that cross the park, you could stay on either side. Gatlingburg is bigger and more touristy. the place is famous for its fall colors, so what you could do is also seasonal. there are creeks, waterfalls, mountain scenes, historic ranch/sites, and wildlife to see. you could also go camping, horseback riding, tubing. this is the most visited national park in US.
