driving thru road work sections - drive very slowly and keep a fair distance when you drive thru the gravel surface, so the gravels being stirred up by the car / truck in front of you wouldn't hit your windshield.
Dont know where you intend to go in Alaska. Roadwork in Summer can be seen anywhere as they have a very short season to repair their roads - they work very fast as well - on our trip, we passed a long stretch of roadwork from ANC to Seward. After a night at Seward, on our way up, the roadwork was almost completely finished, in the stage of pouring asphalt.
If you are American, you dont have a problem driving to Canada with your rental car. If you are Canadian, you CANNOT drive an American rental car to Canada. This is Canadian government regulattion or law (silly one, to protect rental business in Canada). When we drove from Skagway to Whitehorse (Canada) the Canadian border controls do examine your citizenship, and enforce the law.
dont get off to unpaved roads, maintain fair distance when
