total novel travelers to paris, london:)

Would like to go to paris and london in May, have 2 year old baby, and 60s-year old parents, any suggestions. Time is not a big deal, since we are all unemployed :). Thank you in advance. How many days do we need? How much do we have to spend on flights and hotels roughly (I know hotel can be quite different, but we just need average hotel, not too fancy, but not too shabby:) thank you in advance for any suggestions.
