traveller and thanks a lot for the tips of washing cloth in a hotel room. And I am considering taking up scuba diving courses, but i am a horrible swimmer, just look at the picture, i need both the bat and belt when snorkeling :-P We used mainly Costco for grocery instead of Safeway, Long's drugstore and XXX (can't remember, but all in Kihei). Since you can get quality food for less (we dined out only three times in 8 days). We also bought REALLY cheap macademia nuts there as gifts... the Wailea mountain condo sounds nice. And if i were you, I would not worry much about the inside, i mean, how much time would you spent indoors on a vacation? The place most used in our condo is the lanai... it is nice that this would be your second trip to Maui because you don;t need to do the regular 'sightseeing" stuff. The road to Haleakala is horrible, I think it is worse than road to Hana. Maybe also because when driving down, we had to pass this RAINNING CLOUD. the visibility is like, 5 yards? totally scary... everybody was like 10 mph at most.... Highway 340 must be great, we stopped at the Olivine pools this time... We didn't drive out from south, acturally, we did not even reach Hana... To tell you the truth, I have to agree with somebody from tripadvisor that many roads in Pennsylvania or West Virginia are more sceneric that the road to hana (sorry Hana...) and the waterfalls are just so petite... But, if you have time, Nahiku is definately a place worth going. it is my favorite place in Maui and a paradise for plants. they just seem to be so happy living there. the village is quite and peaceful, i wish I spent more time there.... have a nice trip...
